Surreal Vision (Home) is a photography project re-inventing a narration around my local area, a place I have walked around countless times. I observed the same tree, stood in the same sunset spot, touched the same soil - every time I return to my home in France. Being in the UK for 9 years now, spending time on mother land is always special and precious. But sometimes you stop noticing. You stop noticing the tree, the sun, the soil, the river. It has always been here, and will always be.
This river and this forest will outlive me. So it is important to acknowledge all these elements. They are part of me, part of the greater nature world.
The result of this film was a surprise - I set the wrong ISO, and expected every picture to be ruined. Scanning this roll, I had the most unexpected encounter with a totally different vision of my home - rich gold tones hiding behind the clouds and trees, casting dark brown shades, and delicious light leaks dancing in the frames; a celebration of my local area in colours I never knew existed! I don’t remember seeing this sun, or the purple of this sky - it all looks like a distant dream.
This series of photographs is questioning the meaning of home and our perception of the world. Maybe it is time to embrace a different vision of our local areas or family homes, and notice all the details, the shape of the light, the plants, the change in the landscape throughout the seasons, and try to see things differently.
